The 127-year-old Godrej conglomerate, renowned for its diverse portfolio encompassing soap production, home appliances, and real estate, is undergoing an amicable split within the family.
Following this restructuring, Adi Godrej and his brother Nadir Godrej will retain control over Godrej Industries, comprising five listed firms. On the other side, their cousins Jamshyd and Smita will assume ownership of Godrej & Boyce and its affiliates,
along with a significant land bank featuring prime properties in Mumbai.
The split, outlined in a statement by the group, delineates the conglomerate into two distinct entities, with Adi Godrej and his brother forming one faction and their cousins Jamshyd Godrej and Smita Godrej Crishna constituting the other.
Jamshyd Godrej will take the helm of the newly formed Godrej Enterprises Group, which encompasses Godrej & Boyce and its diverse subsidiaries
spanning industries such as aerospace, defence, furniture, and IT software. Serving as both chairperson and managing director, Jamshyd Godrej will oversee operations, with executive directorship entrusted to Smita’s daughter Nyrika Holkar, aged 42.
Additionally, the families of Jamshyd and Smita will assume ownership of a substantial land bank, including 3,400 acres of prized land in Mumbai, solidifying their position in the real estate sector.
